Gifts exchanged employees
The act of any officer or employee to provide gifts to other officers or employees can result in great burden
on receivers and may create disharmony in the work environment and further may be a cause for
allegation of unfair personnel management. Thus, the act of providing gifts to other officers or employees
is prohibited. Specifically, the following acts are prohibited:
Providing gifts to senior officers or employees or to other officers or employees in other departments on
traditional holidays and in various occasions (e.g., New Year¡¯s Day, Thanksgiving Day, etc.);
Requesting an officer or employee, who will go on a business trip abroad or participate in training
overseas, to bring gifts back or giving such person transportation expenses personally.
However, the act of a senior officer or employee to provide gifts of a small value to his or her junior
officers or employees for the purpose of encouraging them and providing simple gifts among officers or
employees on special occasions such as birthdays, etc., are permitted.
